Jenny
Yonkers, NY
My name is Jenny Galvan. I started my running journey in March of 2018 running the BK Half Marathon as my first race ever. I had no idea what I was getting myself into as I signed up for this race with no prior running experience. I pushed past my limits then and there was the moment I fell in love with running. The power of inner strength, courage, and realizing what I was capable of had me locked in to pursue other races. In 2019, I decided to complete the 9+1 program to qualify for the NYC Marathon in 2020. COVID hit 2020, so it was postponed to 2021. 2020 was a year of self reflection and personal growth. With the pandemic causing a health crisis, running became an outlet to connect with myself, experience the beauty around you, and connect with others in my running community, DRC. I became a first time marathoner in 2021 running NYC, achieving my first world marathon major. I checked off my bucket list but I didn't stop there. We all know, that never happens lol now I am proud to say I am 5 marathons in. From NY, to Philly, to London, to Tokyo and Sydney. Achieving 4 world marathon majors and on the quest of looking to achieve my six stars! We all put in the work as individuals but you know there is always a team behind you training and cheering you on. I am a proud member and part of the leadership team at Dyckman Run Club going six years strong! 💪 Excited for this incredible journey that awaits us and sharing the road with these incredible women! ✨
I am running the Speed Project because I believe in the NYC Herizons Mission. When presented with this incredible opportunity, I knew this was my time to run with this incredible group of NYC All around Women Collective from different ages, backgrounds, and running journeys. Most of all, being part of history in creating spaces where the next generation or group of women can do the same. Excited to showcase women's strength, community, and limitless possibility as we come together to journey one of the world's most epic relay races - TSP!
Why The Speed Project
Just like the first time I ever ran a 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, Full Marathon - I want to test my physical and mental limits. It's going to be about working as a team, challenging perceived limitations, and finding untapped potential far removed from the typical races, and sharing those struggles creating deeper bonds with these incredible women.
Building Community
Running has connected me to community in so many profound ways. The shared hardship of races fosters stronger bonds with fellow runners because we have this shared experience in common. In my running community, DRC, we support one another through all our endeavors making us stronger individually and most of all, as a team. We've become family. Through this experience, I would like to open this space to inspire others and show that anything is possible through hard work, perseverance, and commitment.
Quick Q&A
Get to know Jenny
What's your go-to pre-run fuel?
Pre-run fuel is a banana or hard boiled eggs/toast before a long run. If it's shorter distance, water will do. 😊
What's the weirdest thing you've seen on a run?
Most bizarre thing I've seen in a race had to be a runner losing the bottom of their carbon plated running sneakers and taping it with help of loved ones on the course to finish the race. We spend so much money on running gear and this was sad to see.
Best running advice you've ever received?
Your race, your pace! Trust in your training.
What's your power song?
Bad Bunny everything! 😜 🐰
What keeps you going when it gets tough?
My why!
